Communion is one of two things that our Lord instructed us to regularly do as a local congregation. It is an activity that is best experienced as a family in the context of a time of worshipping together. It reminds us of the sacrifice which Jesus made on our behalf in order that we might have our sins forgiven. Each of the two elements of communion have their own distinctive meaning. When the bread is eaten, it is a reminder to the participant of the body of Jesus which was broken. When the juice is drank, it is a reminder of his blood that was spilled. We are to experience communion often enough so that we never forget the price that was paid for our salvation. The Bible is clear that no person who experience communion with out first conducting a self-examination to determine our spiritual condition. Communion is one of the most sacred things that we ever do as believers and at The Journey Church we express this act of obedience with a great sense of reverence and thanksgiving. It is also designed to remind us of the fact that Jesus is coming again to bring that family of God home. Jesus promised his disciples on the night of the Passover that he would never again eat or drink until he is able to do so with all of the family of God.
